I wanted to get an old wooden antique radio and modify so I could play my iPod through it, but couldn’t find anything for a reasonable price. So I decided to build my own.

I call it “Smart Eco”, because it rhymes with Art Deco and it’s made from recycled electronics and scrap wood. The audio amp is from a kit, which I had to build and the power supply and cabinet were built from scratch. Next I’ll add charging dock. Sounds as good as a Bose… for my ears anyway!

I’ve since added the iPod cable for charging and play-back. I’m now waiting for the weather to warm up (it’s been around -15) so I can use my router in the garage and build a front dock for the iP od.
