On my third expedition with Adventure Canada (Chantal’s second), we explored Greenland and Labrador, dis-embarking from the ship at St. John’s, Newfoundland. This is the first of 3 blogs for this trip; and if you’re interested and have a lot of spare time on your hands, there are links to our previous expeditions below the photos.
The zodiacs were used extensively to get us to very rough terrain, where we hiked over arctic tundra. Although late in the season, there was plenty of beautiful colours from the lichen and moss. No flowers at this time of the year.
After the hike, we always came back to a great lunch on the ship, and maybe a glass of whisky in the hot tub.
The story is in the captions… enjoy!

Len,
Incredible photos!!!!
In the photo of “Last day at Torngat Mountains National Park”, I found it interesting that the hikers did not hike as a group but were really spread out. Any reason why?

Hi Len, they had different level groups setup, depending on how fast you wanted to hike. And there was always the free-walking group, where you go where you want, as fast or slow as you want, as long as you stayed within the polar bear boundary. This boundary was patrolled by staff with shotguns and binoculars. I think most people, and certainly Chantal and me, mostly took the free walking group as I want to take photos, and I can do fitness walks anytime at home.

Cynthia, I think it was on one of our hikes, we mentioned that you and George would really love this. Not so many birds on this trip, but twice we saw polar bears and once a mom with 2 cubs.
