In 1888, Jack the Ripper murdered and severely mutilated 5 prostitutes in Whitechapel, London. During our month in the UK and Ireland, we spent quite a bit of time in Whitechapel, which turned out to be one of my favourite areas in London.
I saw this graffiti (top of page) on a dark street showing a futuristic Ripper. Of course, in 2040, there will be as many android prostitutes as human and the Ripper is tearing out wire and components. No blood, but still, lots of suffering and mess on the part of the robot. But what really got me about this graffiti, and there were many other similar street art examples here, that showed the uncomfortable truth about social conscience. The only thing missing in this example is someone making a selfie with a smartphone.
This is the first time I’ve visited the UK and Ireland and I have to say that all my preconceptions were totally destroyed on this trip. The beer is cold (except for the hand-pumped ale in some pubs, which I’d never experienced before). The food is very good, and I didn’t have even one kipper and certainly no haggis. And the women seem very “hot”. And I won’t go any further than that!
So, as with all my photo blogs, as I hope you have seen, I leave out the postcards, and just try to show you how the place felt to me. This first blog is London, and there will be more London later.

Nice pictures Len, when are you going to the North of England? The people are friendlier, the beer is colder and……the scenery better…..and less….tourists 🙂

Hi John, we got to Scotland. Is that north enough?

Yeah good shots and John’s right. The beer’s much better (bitter) in Yorkshire! Also the Yorkshire Ripper scored 13.

You guys (Richard and John) sound like a team. Let’s wait for Peter W. to get in here and we’ll have a real debate going on. Who’s beer is coldest, and who’s Ripper is the nastiest. hahaha! … and…Please don’t start with the football.

OK well….Yea that’s pretty far North, there’s some more bits to see ‘in the middle’ too though should you ever find yourself back there again, not that I’m biased to the North of England or anything!….Look forward to seeing more of your pictures 🙂
